The team at iVengers HQ have put together a short (under 3 minute) video about gaming.  It is aimed at parents and carers and shares some top tips.

Police and Crime Commissioner

It was a pleasure for the iVengers to welcome the Police and Crime Commissioner to our school recently in order to explain what we are doing to keep children safe in school. 

Here is what she said about the meeting along with two pictures.

Meet the iVengers:

We are the brand new iVengers - Minty and Isaac.  We are looking forward to our new roles and have six exciting missions to complete over the year!  Keep an eye on this webpage to see our progress!   

We are Jack and Annabel and we are the brand new iVengers for 2022-23.  Our job is to keep you safe online.  This year we have planned lots of tasks.  These include, delivering lessons and assemblies, making posters and meeting with parents and carers.  We hope to be able to keep everyone safe online!

I'm Jasmine and I was an iVenger last year. 

I'm Morgan and I was an iVenger last year.  I was excited to become an iVenger because I felt like helping people to stay safe online was a big job and responsibility. 

I'm Harry and I'm in Year 6.  I was excited to be the first ever iVenger because I could help the school community to be super safe online!  

I'm Spencer.  Being an iVenger was a pleasure because I got to do lots of work to help my school!  I enjoyed supporting Jasmine and Morgan in their roles. 

Certificates

We are very proud to have received three certificates for our iVenger work this year!  

We have been awarded our Bronze certificate for completing tasks 1 and 2.  Our Silver award was for completing tasks 3 and 4.  

Our iVengers were blown away when we had a visit from Traci (the Lead iVenger) who presented us with a Platinum certificate in recognition of the commitment we have made to the project.  What's more, we even got three ultra-rare gold iVengers badges.  We have never felt so motivated to continue our work!

Mission 1 - Who are we?

Mission 2 - Top Tips for Parents and Carers

We found out that lots of children are refusing to tell their adults at home about things that are happening online.  This is because they are scared about having their technology taken off them.  

As a result, we have decided to let parents and carers know that this is happening and have given them some top tips to help them know how to respond if their children tell them about an incident online. 

The letter is below and has also been sent out to every child and was shared on Class Dojo. 

Mission 3 - The 4 Cs Assembly

In this mission our iVengers had to deliver an assembly to Year 4, 5 and 6.  They informed everyone about the meaning of the 4 Cs - content, contact, conduct and commerce and gave children tips about how to remain safe.

Mission 4 - Phishing Scams

On Safer Internet Day (7/2/23), the iVengers visited every class to teach them about phishing scams.  They wrote and acted out a short sketch to help the children understand the key message.  Children learnt not to click on pop-up links and not to share personal information without checking with an adult.  We also discussed the importance of letting an adult know if you do make a mistake online.  Below is a picture of our iVengers in action as well as their script. 

Mission 5 - Live Streaming - Video to Parents and Carers

Our iVengers are a little concerned about something called live streaming so have put a short (2 minute) video together aimed at giving key messages to grown ups at home.

iVengers 2021-22

Mission 1 - Who are we?

For our very first mission as iVengers, we had to introduce ourselves to the school.  During an assembly we stood up, explained what our roles are and what we want to achieve.  We also introduced our next mission.  

Mission 2 - Top Tips to Stay Safe

After Christmas, we thought it would be a great idea to visit each class to find out what technology they had been given for Christmas.  As we expected, loads of children got tech gifts and we wanted to make sure they can use them safely.  

We visited each class and asked children what type of technology they use most at home.  We then shared ideas about he potential risks they face and agreed on some top tips to stay safe.  Here is our complete information guide.  We have also shared it in a newsletter so parents and carers can see our advice. 

Mission 3 - Camera Covers!

We are aware that so many devices are fitted with cameras and these are great when you want to see friends and family.  We are aware though that cameras can be accessed without us knowing so feel it is important to make sure everyone else knows this.  

We have bought some iVenger camera covers and have made sure that all staff laptops and computers have them fitted.  We have spent some time in each class making pupils aware of why we have fitted them.  We have also taken the time to fit them to all the pupil laptops too.

Mission 4 - Child-Friendly Online Safety Policy

We noticed that the children in our school didn't know as much about our online safety policy as we'd hope so we have decided to write one that is aimed at children instead of adults.  

We are going to make sure everyone in school gets one of these policies to take home to share with their grown ups. 

Mission 5 - Parent and Pupil Survey Results

Recently, we invited children and parents/carers to complete a short survey about their online activity.  Class 4 explored some of the key findings and produced a report to share with parents and carers.  Stanley and Joseph produced an excellent summary which is below.

We are aware that children spent lots of time online during lockdown so we put together a short video sharing some of our top tips.  See the video below. 

LOCKDOWN - Online Safety Poster Competition 

To get children thinking about staying safe online, we held a poster competition to promote online safety.  

Here are some of our entries - aren't they amazing!

Mission 1 - Assembly

Our very first mission was to produce an assembly to introduce ourselves, our roles and our next task to the rest of the school.  The assembly went well and now everyone knows what our role is all about.  

Because of the rules about Corona virus, we had to do the assembly on Zoom, but the children could still see our PowerPoint and it went really well.

Mission 2 - Top Tips at Christmas

We completed this mission just before Christmas.  We are aware that lots of children in school will be lucky enough to get some fantastic tech for Christmas.  While this is fantastic news, we also know that new tech potentially poses new risks.  This inspired our second task.

Our second mission was to ask children in every class to come up with their three top tips for staying safe online.  Teachers helped the class to select their top 3 and then we put the list together.  Our 12 top tips have been shared on Class Dojo but are below as well. 

Mission 3 - Collecting Data

For this mission we wanted to find out what you all get up to online.  We sent you an online survey and have had a good look at the results.  

We thought that what people did online was fairly typical for their ages and we were pleased that lots of you have online safety rules at home.  Not many of you had seen upsetting things (which is great) and most of you did know who to tell and what to do if you did become upset. 

We noticed that a number of children in school are accessing games and Apps that are not aimed at their age group.  This included Tik-Tok and Fortnite.  

We want to make sure that parents and carers know how to keep their children safe online so we have spent lots of time completing Mission 4. 

Mission 4 - Video aimed at Parents about Apps and Games

For this mission, we had to choose one of the games and apps that are being used online and produce a video to grown-ups to show them the good things and bad points of it.  

We hope you like our video - we had lots of fun making it. 

Mission 5 - Healthy Selfies

Our iVengers have worked with all the Year 5 and 6 children to help them to gain a better understanding of healthy selfies.  They explored around 30 pictures and identified whether they were safe or unsafe.  

It was great to hear the mature discussions they had and hopefully this has helped them to make super choices when taking pictures.

Mission 6 - NEW iVENGERS

This was our hardest mission yet!  We had to look through the Year 4 applications and then interview the potential new iVengers!  All the applicants were fantastic but Jasmine and Morgan were the ones who were selected to become our new iVengers.  We are very excited to see what they achieve next year!
